After obtaining a BAcc LLB degree from the University of Stellenbosch in 2005, she did her articles of clerkship at Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr. She was admitted as an attorney, notary and conveyancer in February 2008 and appointed as an associate in the Litigation Department of Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr. She joined the commercial dispute resolution department of Edward Nathan Sonnenbergs in November 2008.
Her experience includes a vast array of commercial matters such as contractual disputes, shareholders’ and directors’ disputes, disputes involving fiduciary responsibilities, property and lease related matters as well as matrimonial and family law. She has advised on many insurance related matters including regulatory dealings with the Financial Services Board, South African Reserve Bank and South African Revenue Service.
As a dispute resolution attorney Annemarie has valuable experience in the interpretation of legal documents, agreements and legislation and has assisted with the drafting of commercial contracts and several complicated legal opinions on a wide range of topics, including insurance issues and corporate governance.
Annemarie’s accounting knowledge and skills are extremely valuable in the resolution of disputes as it gives her a deeper appreciation and understanding of the accounting and tax implications of various aspects of matters especially settlement agreements.
